The perfect place to write…

Different people need different types of spaces to write. I used to like to sit in an empty office and type away; but now I like to have peopled around me, preferably not my children and preferably not those who will speak with me.
This year, I found my perfect writing place. I usually go to a café in the city and sort of hunker down. There are no distractions because once you’re done eating, you have to write or you’ll be bored. There’s no one talk to—you’re alone, the other people have their own friends to talk to. And most importantly, you are not all alone in a room typing away—there is a buzz around you, which is comforting.
Now that we’ve moved to the city (and we LOVE it)—I knew it was time to find a café. And I found one, just two minutes from where we live. I went there yesterday, (after shopping at the corner grocery store—I don’t need a car to shop anymore) and sat down for a couple of hours and got a whole lot of work done. I am very excited about having moved to the city with access to everything within walking distance and still not be bombarded with traffic. And I found a café. Life is right now perfect!
I am proud to say that finally the copy-edited manuscript of The Sound of Language is now back with my editor and hopefully after the first page proofs, this will be last I will see of this book from an editing perspective. I can’t wait.
I am hard at work on my sixth book, which should have been with my agent five days ago…but alas, time is flying faster than I can edit and type. But now that I have found a writing café, it should move really fast.
Hope you’re all enjoying a productive reading summer.
